Our Wedding

WE GOT MARRIED!

In this post we’ll go over everything related to the wedding as well as all the suppliers and professionals we used.

The Venue

We chose to get married at Mythe Barn in Atherstone. We viewed this venue first, went to some others and they just couldn’t live up to Mythe Barn. The venue has many different areas available to you all day. The Oak Barn is the ceremony room, we also had the evening in this room too. There is the Gallery, which is a getting ready area upstairs usually used by the bride. The Stable is used to meet registrars, the men to chill out before the ceremony and breakfast the next day. The Cart Barn is a spacious bar area, then the Grain Store is where you have you meal and speeches. There are also rooms you and some guests can stay in.

We had two coordinators on the day, Sam and Julie, they were wonderful. They couldn’t do anymore for us.

Getting Ready

Chris got ready at our home with all the men from the bridal party and our secondary photographer.

Phoebe got ready at the wedding venue with the girls of the bridal party and one of her other friends. We had a hairstylist and makeup artist join us as well as the main photographer Gary.

The hairstylist we used (Hannah) was wonderful and put us at ease from the moment I met her at my trial. Hannah knew exactly what to do for all of us. Our hair all looked perfect and lasted all day.

The make up artist (also Hannah) was also amazing and really looked after us all. Hannah put the girls at ease that didn’t wear makeup and worked with them to get an end look they were comfortable with.

Gary our photographer stayed with us for hours capturing the day and even arrived at the venue before Phoebe! We did an engagement shoot with Gary the autumn prior to the wedding to get to know each other and it really put us at ease on the day knowing he was going to capture the perfect photos.

The Dresses and Suits

Phoebe’s dress was purchased from Cicily Bridal and designed by Evie Young Bridal. Phoebe always knew she would never have a “normal” dress, and she didn’t. The hair piece worn was also from here.

The suits were hired from Brigdens, we went to the Derby store and were looked after by Lee. He was very patient with the lads and really helped with the decisions. We hired full suits so they only needed shoes. Chris also wore a different tie to the others which was from Swagger and Swoon to go with Phoebe’s dress not that he knew this.

Bridesmaids and flower girls dresses were all purchased online at JJS House. Do I reccommend this? Not sure, we had issues actually receiving the dresses. They were stunning though and were not ridiculously expensive like other places we’d been too. They’re the colour silver.

The Ceremony

The ceremony was great. Phoebe walked in crying as she had been most of the day, happy tears! We had Chris’ brother and Phoebe’s friend do a reading which were lovely. We even wrote our own vows together.

Tineke Floral Designs created Phoebe’s bouquet and Chris’s buttonhole as well as all the florals in the venue. The flowers were beautiful.

We decided to do a bubble confetti after the ceremony instead of proper confetti as we didn’t want flowers all over us. The bubbles is something I would recommend to anyone. It looks great and you don’t have to worry as you walk through it. It’s also fun for the guests.

Evening Reception

We started out the evening reception with drinks and canapés, this is when we took a lot of group photos and photos of Chris and Phoebe. Then we had a three course meal, followed by speeches.

We had our first dance later in the night, we had lessons for this. It went by so quickly but was wonderful. The rest of the night we spent relaxing with a bit of dancing.

Imagine Events decorated the entire venue, they are a wonderful team who work with what you want and have such a variety of products to decorate with. We spent a lot of time working with them to find the perfect blend of decor for our wedding. They nailed it!

The DJ we used (Jack) started before the ceremony and carried on through till the end of the night. It was a wonderful day with Jack, he had a game at the end of the night - Mr and Mrs - that was hilarious.

Other Suppliers

All of our Stationary was from Lilac and White. This is a small business that specialises in wedding stationary. We chose Love Story as a stationary type and had everything from save the dates to name cards to a specialist unplugged ceremony poster.

Our cake was made by Joanna Evans. Joanna we met at a wedding fair the year we got engaged and knew straight away we wanted our cake from her. The cake decision process was easy and very thorough. And led to a beautiful cake.

Etsy Shops and Small Businesses

Denim Jacket - this was a shitshow, the original wasn’t made correctly and we ordered this one like three days before the wedding! Loretta was wonderful, rushed the order, handmade the back for Phoebe.

Matching Tops - Phoebe loves anything matching so you know she was going to do this.

Cufflinks - Phoebe ordered cufflinks for Chris as a surprise present for the wedding. They are personalised with your names and wedding date.

Cards for Vows - We got these as we knew we wouldn’t remember our vows. They also make a lot of cards that would work as gifts.

Socks for men - these were the best thing. Everyone loved them. You personalise with name, role and wedding date, they also come in black.

Matching overnight bags - these are the cutest, Phoebe loves them. They’re a decent size, ideal for a weekend away.

Dads Cufflinks - Phoebe also ordered both dads cufflinks.

Bubbles

Hangers - these were a perfect gift for the girls but also great for photos of our dresses.

Wedding Rings - we decided to get these rather than traditional shop rings. They are engraved with our names and handmade.

Pyjama’s - this was another fairly last minute purchase when Phoebe realised she needed something to wear morning of that wouldn’t mess up her hair.

Vans - we know this isn’t a small business but wanted to mention them as it’s such a cute thing to do. Vans do custom shoes which we got to have our married names on.

Cake Topper - this is a shop Phoebe had bought gifts and personalised items from before. It was the perfect touch to the top of our cake.

Girls Gifts - this shop is a favourite of Phoebes so it only made sense to say thank you with some jewellery from here.
